The purpose of customer due diligence is to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing by ensuring that businesses know who their customers are and whether the customer relationship has a legitimate purpose, in order to gain a deeper understanding of the customer's overall risk profile.

Customer due diligence involves, among other things, collecting identity information and verifying it, as well as conducting a risk assessment based on the collected data.
