Customer risk assessment
Customer risk can be manually configured in Comply based on company type, country, key controls, and industry.
You have the option to manually adjust the risk assessment – both overall and for different company types, countries, key controls, and industries. This is done in the Settings/Admin Center under Comply → Customer Risk Assessment.
At the top of the page, you’ll find the general risk levels. By default, there are three:
-
Low
-
Medium
-
High
However, you can add a fourth risk level and name it yourself. To do this, click the pencil icon on the right-hand side.
Below the risk levels, you can define how often re-evaluations should take place. The default settings are:
-
Low risk: every 5 years
-
Medium risk: every 3 years
-
High risk: annually
If you’ve added a fourth risk level, you can also define the re-evaluation frequency for that category here.
Additionally, you can modify the risk score within four specific areas:
-
Company types
-
Countries
-
Key controls
-
Industries
These are pre-filled with risk ratings based on regulatory guidelines. Unless you have a specific reason to change them, we recommend keeping the default settings. To make changes, click the pencil icon next to each area.
How the Risk Assessment is Calculated
To ensure a consistent and transparent evaluation of cases, we use a scoring system for risk assessment based on the identified risk factors.
How does the scoring work?
Each risk factor in the case is assessed and assigned a score based on the following scale:
-
Low risk = -1
-
Normal risk = 0
-
High risk = 1
These individual scores are used to calculate an average, which forms the basis of the overall recommended risk profile.
Interpreting the Average Score
The average score falls within one of three intervals, which determines the recommended risk level:
-
Low risk: -1 to -0.33
-
Normal risk: -0.34 to 0.33
-
High risk: 0.34 to 1
Calculation Examples
Example 1
A case has 2 low-risk factors, 7 normal-risk factors, and 1 high-risk factor. This results in an average score of -0.1, leading to a recommendation of normal risk.
Example 2
A case has 6 normal-risk factors and 4 high-risk factors. This results in an average score of 0.4, leading to a recommendation of high risk.
Note
-
The average is always calculated based on all assessed risk factors in the case.
-
The recommended risk profile is a guideline and should be supplemented with professional judgment if relevant.
